چکیده

Although on the same theoretical basis, the current standards of major countries have set out two evidently different distributions of along-wind static equivalent wind loads, one is the same as the mean wind force and the other is the same as the first mode shape, on tall buildings. In this paper, the fluctuating static equivalent wind load is evaluated as mean, background and resonant components, and the unfavorable distribution of each component is separately addressed. Meanwhile, the wind loads by the above two code methods are derived. The effects of the wind loads by the two code methods on tall buildings are then examined to identify whether or not they are equivalent with regard to the actual wind induced responses. The results show that the wind loads by the two code methods can only ensure an equivalent first mode displacement response, and they may lead to some considerably unfavorable load effects, for example, the base shear force estimation. At last, a numerical example demonstrating the main results is given.

Equivalent Static Wind Loads on Buildings: New Model

In current design practice, spatiotemporally varying wind loads on buildings are modeled as equivalent static wind loads. This loading description serves as pivotal information for estimating response under the combined action of wind and other loads. This paper presents a framework for evaluating the equivalent static wind load for any given peak response of buildings with uncoupled responses ...

A Simple Approach to Static Analysis of Tall Buildings with a Combined Tube-in-tube and Outrigger-belt Truss System Subjected to Lateral Loading

In this paper, an efficient technique is presented for static analysis of tall buildings with combined tube-in-tube and outrigger-belt truss system while considering shear lag effects. In the process of replacing the discrete structure with an elastically equivalent continuous one, the structure is modeled as two parallel cantilevered flexural-shear beams that are constrained at the outrigger-b...

Analysis of Tall Buildings with Bundled Tube System Subjected to Wind and Earthquake loads

At present, the tubular structural systems are mainly used in tall buildings to withstand earthquake loads. Although it is possible to analyse the structure by finite element methods using standard three dimensional programs, the system is generally time-consuming and expensive in the primary design work. In this paper, for the analysis of Framed-Tube systems, a simple method was studied and de...

Coupled Dynamic Analysis and Equivalent Static Wind Loads on Buildings with Three-Dimensional Modes

Buildings with either complex geometric shapes or structural systems with noncoincident centers of mass and resistance, or both, may undergo three-dimensional ~3D! coupled motions when exposed to spatiotemporally varying dynamic wind loads. To capture the dynamic load effects, this paper presents a framework for the analysis of 3D coupled dynamic response of buildings and modeling of the equiva...

Evaluation of Equivalent Static Wind Loads on Buildings

Wind loads on buildings can be quantified through synchronous measurements of pressure over building model surfaces or by high frequency force balance (HFFB) measurements. Although this loading information can be directly utilized for building design applications, current design practice often requires the transformation of dynamic wind loading to the equivalent static wind loads (ESWLs). This ...
